Young people sometimes need one-to-one assistance to help them with a problem or concern. The Agency offers young people space to meet with a youth worker and talk about what is troubling them. Youth Workers do not tell young people what to do, but rather help them decide on the best way forward for them. Individual support is offered to any young person that requires additional help in managing the issues in their life. This provision ensures that young people are assisted to find the pathways to care most appropriate to their situation. The Youth Agency also offers individual work through sexual health services.
C Card Scheme C: Card is a free and confidential service which provides 13-25 year olds in Edinburgh and the Lothians with support, advice and free condoms. Workers have the opportunity to help young people using this service make positive lifestyle choices regarding their sexual health.
Sexual Health Clinic Due to the nature of this service, issues may arise which workers are not able to deal with in the office e.g. pregnancy and S.T.I testing, therefore the Youth Agency is involved in a Young Persons Clinic for young people aged 13-25. Young people have access to a nurse and a doctor who can offer advice and services related to sexual health issues. The youth workers role is to issue C: Cards and provide one-to-one support to young people who use the clinic. This includes addressing issues around drug/alcohol misuse and the risk taking behaviours that can be linked to this, support and advice regarding access to further service and general sexual health advice and information.
